Our story
Stephens Cooke & Associates was established in 2004 by George Stephens and Gerry Cooke, who had previously been partners in a Mullingar accountancy practice founded in 1982.
From the outset, the goal was straightforward: combine the depth of a long-established practice with the close, personal attention business owners and families actually want from their accountant.
Since then we have grown into one of the largest accountancy practices in the Midlands, led today by two partners, Gerry Cooke and John O’Connell, working alongside a team of qualified staff across accountancy, tax, audit and advisory.
Our client base is wide and varied, with particular experience among property and development clients. Whatever the sector, the partners and their team work closely together so each client’s problems and opportunities are properly reviewed against their needs.

Gerry co-founded Stephens Cooke & Associates in 2004 and has been the steady hand at the heart of the practice ever since. Originally from Trim, he became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1989 and has worked in practice in Mullingar throughout his career.

John has been a Partner in Stephens Cooke & Associates since 2009 and is also a Director of Blackhall Financial Services Limited, a wealth management business. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland (FCA) and a Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA).

Joe brings an unusually broad background to the practice. He graduated from NUI Galway with an Honours degree in Microbiology in 1999 and worked as a Senior Laboratory Technician in the food industry before returning to Galway to complete a Higher Diploma in Business Studies.

Raymond graduated with an Honours Degree in Accountancy & Human Resource Management from the National College of Ireland in 1998 and trained as a Chartered Accountant, qualifying in 2003.
